Is Winterizing your PowerSports Machines Important?

It is important to make sure you take care of your machine to assure that it will be ready to go when you are ready to use it again. From anything like ATV, lawnmower too moped or scooter, you are going to want to make sure these things are taken care of and ready to go. The process of winterizing is pretty simple but a step that a lot of people don’t leave out.

First thing to be mindful of is if your machine has a battery, make sure you take care of it so you don’t have to replace it. If you plan on using the machine that is fine just make sure that battery stays some what warm, dry and charged throughout the winter months. If you aren’t going to be using the machine remove the battery and keep it indoors to keep it warm. Also invest in a battery maintainer to keep the battery charged and fresh.

Your fuel system is very important to keeping the machine in healthy operating condition. To take care of this in the cold winter months if your machine has a fuel shut off turn the gas off and run the machine dry. This will use up all the gas in the carb and keep it from letting the gas go stale in the carb. If your machine does not have a shut off go ahead and get some fuel stabilizer or sea foam to put in the gas tank. This will help the gas stay healthy through the winter months. You will also use this for machine that have a shut off. Run the machine for some time so that the fuel additive will make its way to the carb and keep some of the gas in the carb active so that it won’t spoil in the carb.

Lastly the machine itself you will want to try and limit its exposure to the elements. If you have the ability to store the machine inside that is always the way to go. If you do not have the ability to store it inside we defiantly suggest to cover the machine to make sure that it has a limited exposure to the elements. This will keep the electrical components on the machine dry and limit the rust that will get to the machine.
